Big players in the headset market include HyperX, Razer, Turtle Beach, and Steelseries, among many others.Kindly Check out 10 top Gaming headsets 2018″

2. SteelSeries Arctis Pro High Fidelity - Gaming Headset

SteelSeries Arctis Pro High Fidelity - Gaming Headset

Arctis Pro combines premium high fidelity audio with luxurious polished steel and aluminum alloy construction, delivering up to 40,000 Hz audio with stunning realism and premium style. Engineered with new DTS Headphone:X v2.0 and designed with the exclusive Arctis ski goggle headband and AirWeave performance fabric ear cushions, the headset sounds as amazing as it feels. The Arctis Pro headset features a studio-quality ClearCast microphone for unparalleled voice clarity and background noise cancellation.

The Arctis Pro is one of the better headsets SteelSeries has released recently, improving on the old Arctis 7. It fixes the design issues, and includes a highly-advanced headband that you can adjust for an absolutely perfect fit. You can also customize the outer cups – perfect if your team has custom graphics.

And while we do think the soundstage isn’t as good as that found in models like the HyperX Cloud Revolver S, the audio quality is still phenomenal. It feels natural, balanced, and clear, without overcooking any one element. The model we’ve linked to here is the base headset, but if you want, you can shell out an extra $70 and pick up SteelSeries’ GameDAC – a high-end audio converter that is geared towards gaming. We don’t think it makes a huge difference – it’s overkill for most people, and doesn’t give a dramatic improvement on the base sound – but it’s nice to have the option. And when you consider just how good – and affordable – this headset it, it’s hardly surprising we’ve ranked it so highly. There is also a wireless version, but we think it’s way too overpriced for what you get; if you can deal with a lone wire, this offers excellent value.

Explore countless lighting profiles with the 16.8 million customizable color options from your own programmed palette of colors, to preloaded lighting effects, all set easily through Razer Synapse.

What operating system is compatible with Razer ManO’War?
The wireless headset is compatible with PC running Windows Vista and higher, Mac running OS X 10.9 and higher as well as the PlayStation 4. Do note that only Spectrum cycling lighting effect and 2.0 stereo audio output is available on the PlayStation 4, other features such as quick action controls on the Ear cups and Razer Surround aren’t available.

Where can I find the USB dongle for my Razer ManO’War?
The USB dongle for the Razer Man O’War can be found in its convenient storage location, in the headset.

Quick and easy to set up using a wireless USB receiver that stores inside the headset for transportation, the Razer ManO’War is a user-friendly unit primed for surround-sound gaming. Sure, it’s a little chunkier than most other headsets, but two soft leatherette ear cups make it comfortable to wear over extended periods. And, with Chroma RGB lighting customizable through Razer Synapse, it even looks snazzy to observers.

With respectable bass and 7.1 surround sound performance, the Razer ManO’War is simply one of the best PC gaming headsets we’ve ever used. With virtual reality raising the bar for immersive gaming, this $169 (£169, AU$329) headset is precisely what you’ll need to enhance your experience – especially if you can score a great Black Friday or Cyber Monday deal.

What’s more, thanks to requiring only a single USB 3.0 port to work, this is one of the simplest 7.1 headsets you can hook up to your gaming PC or PS4.

Specification

  • LAG-FREE 2.4 GHZ WIRELESS USB ADAPTER: 12+2 Meter range capability
  • LARGE 50 MM DRIVERS: High fidelity gaming grade audio
  • UNIDIRECTIONAL DIGITAL BOOM MICROPHONE: Optimized for more natural sounds and crystal clear voice reproduction
  • QUICK ACTION CONTROLS: Adjust mic, volume levels, and mute without fumbling with onscreen controls
  • POWERED BY RAZER CHROMA: Explore countless lighting options with 16.8 million customizable color options

Product Information

Design

The Razer ManO’War is, well, it’s a large headset. From the round ear cups to the thick headband, everything about Razer’s latest headset does it big.

Rather than going with sculpted ear cups, as you’d see on other headsets, like the Corsair Void or Logitech 993 Artemis Spectrum, the Razer ManO’War features large and circular cups meant to fit all types of ear sizes. On the one hand, universal fits are great, but we wish they were a bit smaller than Princess Leia’s hair buns.

However, the ear cups feature RGB lighting – so you can make that Razer logo light up in whatever color you want through the Synapse application.

At first glance, the ManO’War doesn’t look all that comfortable. When you pick it up, the frame feels rigid and there isn’t a cushiony air gap built into the headband. Instead, you’ll find a thin leatherette band embossed with the Razer logo on one side and the smallest layer of padding on the other.

This same center piece actually presses into the top of your head as you pull the sides of the headband apart and put the gaming headphones on.

Despite sounding like the world’s least comfortable gaming headset, it actually works surprisingly well. The ManO’War fits snuggly on your noggin, but not to the point wherein it feels pinching. It’s also lightweight and well vented, letting me game on for hours at a time.

Comfort and Controls

Razer made some smart decisions to ensure this headset was extremely portable and self-contained.

You’ll find all of the controls on the gaming headset itself including a power button and two knobs to adjust the volume level for whichever your game you’re playing as well as voice chat. There’s also a decent sounding microphone, which is built into the frame and extends out to a long flexible rod when you want to use it.

The most convenient aspect of the ManO’War is you only need to plug in a single 2.4GHz dongle into a USB 3.0 port. Setup is much easier and simpler than plugging in multiple audio cables or a big mix amp. And, just like every other feature on this headset, the dongle stows away neatly inside the its frame – there’s even a magnet to help pull it inside.

Altogether, this makes it incredibly easy to pack up the ManO’War and bring it wherever you need serious surround sound. Just tuck in the microphone and slip the dongle back inside, and you’re ready to go off to your next gaming tourney. Now, if only Razer could include a carrying case for it.

Sound Quality

In the world of surround sound headsets, you either get a set of cans with multiple drivers built into them or audio devices that simulate the effect virtually. The ManO’War falls into the latter camp, using an extra-large 50mm driver to essentially cover your ear and project directional soundwaves.

Although the headset only produces a virtualized surround sound space, it’s actually just as good as the Razer Tiamat 7.1 – which actually has multiple drivers – we’ve owned for the last few years. While running around the ruined streets of New York in The Division, we could hear a car alarm go off in the far north west and gun fire from the south.

Aside from gaming, the ManO’War is also pretty decent for listening to music. Of course, it’s also perfect for watching movies without needing to buy a sound bar or a surround sound system for your home theater.

And more importantly, it offered a completely lag free audio experience. Razer promises up to 14 hours of battery life. we can personally back up these claims as we got through two six-hour gaming sessions on the weekend before we needed to plug in the micro USB cable.

7. SteelSeries Arctis 7 - Gamming Headset

SteelSeries Arctis 7 - Gamming Headset

Arctis challenges everything you know about gaming headsets with completely overhauled audio, a new mic design with unmatched clarity, and improved comfort with materials inspired by athletic clothing. Arctis 7 features lag-free wireless audio, 15-hour battery life, a premium steel headband, on-ear Game/Chat audio balance, and DTS Headphone:X 7.1 Surround Sound. The Arctis 7 uses the proven Arctis 2.4G wireless connection for lossless and ultra-low latency wireless audio with up to 12 meters (40 ft) of interference-free range.

A year old now, and surpassed by the far superior Arctis Pro – but still well worth picking up. With amazing audio out the box and complete EQ customization available through the SteelSeries Engine 3 software, you can tell from the first utterance of noise that you’re on to a good thing. The surround sound packs an immersive, directional punch, and while music sounds impressive, setting up some EQ profiles really unlocks the unit’s potential. Stick to stereo though, as the DTS surround made directional noise harder to pinpoint. No competition for the Astro A50’s Dolby 7.1 solution.

The Arctis is also extremely comfortable thanks to its lightweight alloy frame and Airweave fabric ear cups. Its adjustable elastic ski goggle strap means finding the perfect fit is dead simple. And the design is slick. So slick we wish we could wear them outside and make real people jealous. With its combination of USB and 3.5mm inputs the headset has more platform versatility than a gymnast and its retractable microphone really compliments the stellar build quality. For a wireless headset, the mic’s sound quality is top tier, and the wireless transmitter features the ability to play your audio through your desktop speakers as well.

5GHZ WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY

Ditch the cables with confidence. ASTRO’s wireless technology provides robust, low-latency performance by operating at a higher frequency. This keeps you in perfect sync with your gameplay and eliminates interference from other wireless devices, allowing you to focus on winning. No chat cable required on any console.

DOLBY HEADPHONE 7.1 SURROUND

Whether it’s stereo or multi-channel surround sound, the A50 delivers accurate audio no matter the source. Spatial placement and directivity are crucial in competitive play and the A50 was engineered with this in mind. The end result is a lifelike, cinematic gaming experience that gives you the ability to pinpoint various objects and sounds in a three-dimensional space.

ASTRO BASE STATION

No one likes a complicated setup. The A50 headset automatically pairs with the ASTRO Base Station for frustration-free connectivity, while magnetic charging allows for effortless docking when the headset is not in use. The Base Station’s front display indicates battery life and charging status to ensure you never get stuck with a dead headset. The rear 3.5mm input/output supports additional audio sources, giving you the ability to take phone calls, overlay background music, or output your game audio and chat to external capturing devices.

PC COMPATIBILITY AND SUPPORT

The A50 offers multi-platform compatibility, making it simple to switch between console and PC/Mac modes. PC gamers can access the ASTRO Command Center software via USB and adjust various audio settings and levels accordingly. PC gamers can also balance game sound and voice chat when using separate chat applications such as Discord or Skype.

ASTRO COMMAND CENTER SOFTWARE

The innovative ASTRO Command Center software offers enhanced flexibility and control beyond default mix settings. The A50 has three new EQ presets (ASTRO, Pro, and Studio), which can also be accessed via the headset for fast and easy selection. Users can also independently adjust input and output levels, including Sidetone and Noise Gate. Profiles can then be updated, saved, and shared. The software also provides automatic notification of product firmware updates when they become available.

PRECISION MICROPHONE WITH FLIP

ASTRO Gaming was conceived in the pits of eSports tournaments, so we know the importance of clean voice chat. The flexible, durable microphone offered on the A50 provides clear, low noise communication and is optimized for PlayStation 4 and PC/Mac. And with the ASTRO Command Center software, gamers can fully adjust microphone levels and other settings depending on their environment and preferences.

COMFORT & DURABILITY

ASTRO headsets were designed for marathon gaming sessions. The ear cushions feature cloth for maximum comfort, backed with synthetic leather for the best acoustic performance. Wear glasses? Not an issue. The A50 features lightweight, yet rugged construction with premium materials for a pressure-free fit that won’t overheat your head.

MOD KIT READY

The A50 headset already provides great comfort and sound out-of-the-box, but the optional A50 Mod Kit* (sold separately) gives users the ability to upgrade to synthetic leather noise-cancelling ear cushions and a padded headband. The cushions provide increased noise cancellation and limit sound leakage for quiet environments. Not compatible with other headsets.

9. Creative Sound BlasterX H7 Tournament Edition HD - Gaming Headset

Creative Sound BlasterX H7 Tournament Edition HD - Gaming Headset

Built with the powerful and versatile Blaster Acoustic Engine, the Sound Blaster H7 Tournament Edition combines large, responsive 50mm Full Spectrum drivers to offer customizable, best-in-class 7.1 surround sound audio for absolute gaming immersion. For gamers who travel from tournament to tournament can also benefit from Plus, a programmable hardware sound signature that can emphasize essential game cues and decrease distractions during tournaments without requiring on-site software installations. Forged with reinforced steel, aluminium architecture and a lightweight, ergonomically tested design, the Sound Blaster H7 promises not only comfort during long gaming sessions, but also the durability to withstand abuse. The headset also features dual-mode USB/analog functionality, a detachable noise reduction microphone and comfortable memory foam leatherette ear cushions for ultimate versatility. Step it up with the Sound Blaster H7 – gaming will never sound the same again.

The H7 Tournament Edition is Creative’s flagship gaming headset, and although the high contrast colorway might steer some off course, what’s going on below deck will leave competitors with a sinking feeling. With its upgraded 50mm FullSpectrum drivers, the H7 sounds amazing: delivering a rich and full tone across games, movies and music, it truly is one of the better sounding sets in our list. It might not handle mids and highs quite as well as the Sennheiser PC 373D, but cutting half the price makes that an easy compromise to live with. The microphone is also decent, and, while it doesn’t hit the heights of a dedicated USB condenser, it’s up there with the slightly more expensive Arctis 7.

Looks-wise, the black, brushed metal cup plates really compliment the gun metal arms. However, although we’re fans of the high contrast red cables, we do wish Creative had reduced the aggressive styling of their X logo, which, in our opinion is far too prominent, and detracts from the slickness of the brushed metal frame. Oh, and it lights up – yay? That being said, the headset is super comfy, lightweight, and built in such a way that allows it to bend, flex and twist without ever feeling like it’s about to break. So, top marks for design. The BlasterX software provides presets for your favorite games (CS:GO, DOTA 2 etc.) as well as the ability to tweak custom profiles. Some of the presets worked better than others, but, as the ability to completely customize your EQ settings is available, we can’t really ask for more. In true gamer-centric fashion, there’s even a Scout mode, that lets you hear footsteps easier in stereo. The virtual surround will appease some but, while it does add a layer of immersion for casual gaming, serious gamers will notice its poor, rear directional sound representation. The only real issue we’ve seen are complaints of poor Windows 10 drivers causing the left and right channels to switch intermittently, although we never ran into this issue ourselves.

Specification

  • UPGRADED 50mm DRIVERS FOR BETTER GAMEPLAY – Immersive and crystal-clear surround sound. Audio is rich and alive, so you feel like you’re right in the action of your game.

  • AWARD-WINNING SOUND SIGNATURES – Same dynamic sound signature with punchy highs, mids and lows for balanced and natural sound with enhanced clarity and precision on analog. Connect the H7 Tournament Edition via USB to customize and save sound signatures right into the headset, so that it will reproduce your sound configuration without any need to install software when you’re connected to different gaming setups.
  • X-PLUS MODE – X-Plus mode accentuates game cues that matter in a competitive game while playing down distractions, by changing the sound signature to audio profiles specially tuned for different eSports titles.

Production Information

Product Design

Just by looking at it, there’s no denying that the Sound BlasterX H7 Tournament Edition is a gamers’ headset. It’s big and bulky. And its glaring color contrast—red trimmings on black, which this writer happens to personally like—alongside the glowing, pulsating red X on its ear cup plates, (which are activated in USB mode), only intensifies that gamers’ look.

That said, it still exudes a sophisticated aesthetic through a matte finish with soft leatherette padding and a pair of brushed metal ear cup plates. So while you might have the colors of a Special Forces TIE Pilot, you won’t necessarily come out looking like one.

The best thing about this pair’s design is that it’s built for durability as well as for ultra comfort. It’s solidly constructed with a sturdy, steel-reinforced headband and thick (but not too thick) cables that won’t fray anytime soon.

At the same time, it boasts a thick layer of padding at the band, which is snug but also flexible. Meanwhile, soft memory foam inside the ear pads help you enjoy long play sessions or a Lord of the Rings marathon pain free. The detachable microphone is also ergonomic by being so flexible, you can twist, turn and position it every which way, depending on your preference… or quickly tuck it in when not in use.

For convenience, the in-line remote has the micro USB port for digital audio, 3.5mm audio jack, volume control, mute switch and a multi-function button (for playing/stopping music and ending calls). For versatility, it easily connects to other gaming devices such as the PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Headset Performance

Where you’ll really get your money’s worth is with Sound BlasterX H7 Tournament Edition’s excellent sound. Creative asserts that they’ve upgraded the 50mm FullSpectrum drivers from the previous model to deliver an even clearer and more accurate sound.

Sure enough, this headset sounds perfectly tuned for gaming and watching movies, with superb clarity, low noise-to-signal ratio, plenty of headroom and an EQ curve ideally tailored for gaming.

While playing Horizon Zero Dawn for example, we noticed that the explosions in boss fights did not overpower the headset. Despite there being several things happening at once—explosions, arrows flying, machines moving, background music—we could hear each sound effect distinctly. This kind of immersive experience was also apparent while watching movies such as Dunkirk.

Enhancing the clarity and sound separation is the earcups’ tilt driver design, which essentially minimizes resonance between the earcups and your ears.

That beautiful sound is backed by the BlasterX Acoustic Engine software, which allows you to do things like adjust the EQ, turning ScoutMode on/off, and choosing game-specific as well as generic sound presets, and by the X-Plus Configurator software, which allows you to load onto the headset a sound preset that you can use on the go.

(Note that the BlasterX Acoustic Engine Lite comes free with the H7 Tournament Edition while the Pro is for purchase.)

Of course, nothing’s perfect and this particular model’s shortcomings are that its mids are a little quiet and its high end is a little prominent. These made some music genres like rock, jazz and country sound flat and slightly sterile… although EDM and pop did sound fantastic.

As far as the ergonomic mic, it’s also very directional, which means it does a good job of keeping background noise separate from your actual voice, allowing it to come out crisp and clear.

Sound Quality

This gaming headset’s compelling 7.1 surround sound is perhaps its coolest, if not best, feature. It gives the headset a bigger soundstage and you, a very immersive experience.

Mind you, it’s virtual surround sound so it doesn’t have the same capabilities as a real surround sound system. For example, in a gaming environment, anything that happens behind you doesn’t seem to have the same sound separation as those in front of you or to your side. Objects behind you will sound just as loud regardless of their distance.

Still, it’s an awesome feature that’s executed quite nicely in this model. You can clearly hear sounds moving from left to right or towards you. You can also easily place where characters are in any direction except from behind, which gives you the advantage of immediately knowing your enemies’ positions. And sound events sync with your position and movements and adjust accordingly with precision.
